Big prizes, big banter and a lot of Italian steel
Right then, legends, get your calendars out. We’ve got a massive week coming up in September and if you aren’t buzzing for this one, you might need to check your pulse. We’re heading down to Eaton Hall in Ashbourne from Wednesday 16th to Sunday 20th September 2026. This isn’t just another weekend bash; it’s a big one.
The Main Event: 120 Targets of Pure Grit
We’re talking 120 targets over 15 stands that promise to be absolutely nails. The word from the organisers is that we should expect “demanding scenarios” designed to push our mental focus to new levels. In regular human speak? Prepare to have your ego bruised. We know the drill: we’ll turn up, talk a big game about our new chokes and then proceed to miss a sitter on stand 1…
It’s part of the charm, isn’t it? We’ve all been there shaking our heads, blaming the “invisible” wind, while the rest of the squad has a right laugh at our expense. That’s why we love this community. The banter in the cage is just as important as the score on the card.
The Big Prizes (The Dream Is Real)
Now, let’s talk the shiny stuff. The overall winner of the Gold Cup is walking away with a Beretta DT11 Supersport. That’s over £10,000 worth of Italian perfection. Imagine rolling up to the local ground with that in your slip!
But hold your horses, there’s a Saturday special too. On September 19th, there’s the SPAuto competition at the same spot. If you’ve got a semi-auto in the cabinet, you need to be on this. The top prize there is an AX800 Suprema (RRP £2,665). Two chances to win tasty new bits of kit in one weekend? We are so in.
The Rules of the Game
Before we get carried away, we need to stick to the script. Beretta is keeping it in the family: only Beretta shotguns can be used for the full duration. If you rock up with another brand, you won’t be allowed to shoot. No exceptions, and no “targets only” rounds. If you’re entering the SPAuto, it has to be a Beretta semi-auto.
For us that’s a bit of an odd one. We see clay shooting as a community-driven sport so to exclude people based on brand preference sticks a bit. But hey, when you stand as tall as Beretta I guess you call the shots. (pun intended)
Load up: Maximum permitted load is 28 gram. Plastic wads are allowed.
Categories: Ladies, Under 21s (must be under 21 for the whole event), and Veterans (60+ before the start) will shoot in their CPSA classes. If you aren’t registered, don’t sweat it; they’ll determine your class based on your scores at the end.
The podium: If you’re a total crack shot and land in the top three overall, you get taken out of your class so the class prizes can be shared out fairly.
Ties & shoot-offs: If there’s a tie for Gold, Silver or Bronze, there’s a shoot-off on the final day.
Logistics & social
Get to your first stand at least ten minutes before your start time. We don’t want to be the ones holding up the squad! Also, leave the shotgun-mounted cameras at home they aren’t permitted for this one.
Even if we don’t come home with a DT11, the atmosphere at Eaton Hall is always top-tier. It’s about the smell of the powder, the crack of the clays and the prize-giving at 6pm on Sunday where we can all catch up. You can buy multiple entries if you want more practice, but remember – only your first score counts for the prizes!
Let’s get the PAIR DEAD crew down there in force.
See you on the stands!
